Sewing is first and foremost a hobby for me. I started this website because I love to sew, and I wanted to share what I was making with like-minded individuals. Since I get a lot of website traffic, companies sometimes ask me to review sewing products. I’m happy to do this if it is something I think I would use
When VANKYO approached me about trying out a projector for sewing patterns, I thought it would be fun to give it a try. Sewing projectors are trending right now and tons of pattern designers are adding projector files to their patterns. As full disclosure, they sent me the VANKYO Leisure 470 projector for free in exchange for this review.

VANKYO Leisure 470 Features
The VANKYO Leisure 470 is a mini WiFi projector. It is suitable for sewing if you have a high ceiling. That part is super important! Here is an image to show you the projection size you can expect:
If you have a lower ceiling, you’ll have to spend more money to get a short throw or ultra-short throw projector for sewing, such as the Optoma HD39HDR. Sometimes you can get ultra-short throw projectors on eBay — a refurbished projector should work just fine for sewing.
Here are some other features of the VANKYO Leisure 470:
- Easy WiFi: You can project sewing patterns directly from your phone. If you want to use a laptop, all you need is an HDMI cable.
- 720P Native Resolution: This provides brighter images so you can cut out patterns in the daylight. This model also has 120 Lumens.
- Easy to Mount: This projector is small and has four screw holes in the bottom for easy mounting. It is compatible with the PM20 bracket, also sold on ivankyo.com.
My Experience with this Sewing Projector
I have standard 8-foot ceilings, so unfortunately the VANKYO Leisure 470 projector did not work for my sewing purposes. I got everything set up and the projection image was just too small. It will work if I want to project patterns for small bags and children’s clothing, but it’s not large enough to project and cut out adult clothing… With that being said, if you have taller ceilings, this projector would work well. The quality is just as good as the popular Vivimage Explore 2. It’s also a good price.
Here’s a pic of my projection to show you how easy it is to read in full daylight:
I rigged a mount out of shelf brackets so that I could have the lens of the projector as close to my ceiling as possible. This helped give me a few extra inches for the projection size. Standard mounts typically need 10 inches or more for mounting. Still, I couldn’t get the VANKYO 470 Leisure to have a big enough projection size for my purposes. I will need to get a short-throw projector instead.
