Did your mom have a special pair of sewing scissors that nobody was allowed to touch?
Mine did…
She stored them on the wall next to her sewing machine in a wooden holder. Everyone knew they’d be in BIG trouble if they touched her sewing scissors without permission.
My mom’s sewing scissors were made by Gingher. This is still the best brand of fabric cutting scissors available today. I own a pair of Gingher sewing scissors, too!
Gingher has been making sewing scissors for over 50 years. Chances are good that your mom and grandma both had a pair that they guarded heavily. These scissors have an ergonomic grip, durable design, and cut fabric very well.
If you don’t have a good pair of sewing scissors, I recommend Gingher’s 8-inch Knife Edge Dressmaker’s Shears. Gingher makes a lefthanded version, too.
Good sewing scissors are an investment you should protect. With proper care, they will last your entire life. I’ve been using the same pair of sewing scissors since I was a teenager!
Here are a few rules to remember about caring for your sewing scissors:
- Only use them on fabric!
- Wipe the blades after each project.
- Get them sharpened every year.
- Tighten the pivot screw and apply oil periodically.
Your mom had the right idea… Guard those Gingher sewing scissors well.
