ThreadCrate is a cool sewing subscription box that sends you a sewing pattern, fabric, notions, and other sewing goodies each month. If you like to sew, it is a lot of fun. I thought it would be useful to do an unboxing of my December ThreadCrate so you can see what you get each month. I think you’ll be surprised by the value!

If you’re interested in signing up for ThreadCrate, you can get a 10% discount with the code: Society10.

This is the second month I have gotten a delivery from ThreadCrate. The pattern last month was a nice cardigan. ThreadCrate always includes a women’s sewing pattern so that you can sew something new to add to your wardrobe every month. I think that’s really cool and something that is unique about this sewing subscription box. The pattern in ThreadCrate this month is a hoodie, but it includes sizes for the whole family!

Here are some pictures from my December ThreadCrate Unboxing:

What Do You Get Each Month from ThreadCrate?

I was impressed with the contents again this month. ThreadCrate is really good value for your money. I can’t believe how many sewing goodies are included! Here’s what was inside the box:

  • Family Hoodie Pattern from New Horizons Designs: The pattern this month comes in sizes for the whole family. If you’re wondering if ThreadCrate is worth the money, consider that the pattern alone this month costs $29.85 without a coupon!
  • Fabric: ThreadCrate included two colors of french terry spandex to create a color-blocked hoodie. I think there is enough fabric for me to make two matching hoodies for my sons. I was going to make a hoodie for myself, but I think the blue and grey fabric I received would look better on my kids. Luckily, the pattern we received has options for their sizes!
  • Needle: You should always start each sewing project with a new needle, and ThreadCrate has you covered. They send the type of sewing machine needle you need for your project each month.
  • Thread: You get a spool of high-quality Guttermann thread that coordinates with the color of fabric you receive.
  • Stash ‘n Store: One of the sewing goodies included this month was a small organizer for your sewing tools. I had never seen anything like it before. I put the Stash ‘n Store next to my sewing machine. Time will tell if I use it or not though… That’s one of the fun things about ThreadCrate. You get a few sewing goodies each month that you might not normally buy. Sometimes they are things you didn’t even know you needed. For example, last month I got an iron rest that I use all the time now.
  • Seam Ripper: You can never have enough seam rippers. The one from ThreadCrate this month has a nice rubber grip and a protective cap. I hope I don’t have to use it on the hoodie, though. 😉
  • Double-Sided Marking Pen: ThreadCrate included a fabric marking pen this month that has purple disappearing ink on one side and blue, water-soluble Mark-B-Gone ink on the other side. This was a great surprise because I needed a new marking pen. I typically use chalk, but the marking pen will be better for the french terry fabric.
  • Olfa Rotary Cutter: This one is a big wow. I cannot believe that ThreadCrate included a 45mm rotary cutter from Olfa! That is one of the best rotary cutter brands. It has a contoured handle and blade cover.
  • Ear Warmers: ThreadCrate included some fur-lined ear warmers this month to go with the hoodie. I thought that was a fun touch to show they care about their customers.
  • Cozy Socks: There were also some fun sherpa socks included in the box. ThreadCrate wants you to feel cozy in the cold month of December.
  • Small Drawstring Bag: I know the drawstring bag was just part of the packaging ThreadCrate used, but I’m going to keep it. You can never have enough bags for storing small sewing notions.
  • 5 Sewing Clips: ThreadCrate includes five sewing clips every month so you can build your stash. I find clips easier to use than pins and it’s nice to have them in your sewing toolkit.
  • Handmade” Tags: The clothing you buy from retail stores always has a tag inside to tell you the size and washing instructions. ThreadCrate included two small tags you can sew into your hoodie that say, “handmade.” I think that’s a fun detail to add to your sewing projects, especially if you are sewing something as a gift.

I was a little surprised that ThreadCrate did not include a drawstring and grommets for the hoodie, but you can make this pattern without them. I probably wouldn’t use the drawstring for my kids anyway — safety concerns. If you want to use a drawstring for your hoodie, check out this good deal on cords from Amazon.

Last month’s box included just as many awesome sewing goodies. If you want to know the specifics, check out my November ThreadCrate Unboxing.

ThreadCrate Is on Facebook

When you sign up for ThreadCrate, you get to join a special Facebook group where you can talk about your crate and get help with the pattern each month. I’m going to try and include a sew-along on my blog each month to help you, too. Don’t be afraid to sign up for ThreadCrate if you’re a beginner. The ThreadCrate community is going to help you be successful!

Remember, you can get a 10% discount if you use the code: Society10 at checkout. Be sure to subscribe soon if you want to be included in next month’s box. ThreadCrate makes a limited number of boxes each month.

This month on Facebook, everyone was talking about how excited they were when their ThreadCrate delivery arrived. I don’t know why, but mine didn’t come until two days later. It was super hard to wait and the anticipation was torture. Don’t worry, though, nobody is allowed to ruin the surprise by posting pictures of the contents for a couple of days so that everyone can receive their box.

I think ThreadCrate is the best sewing subscription box available. You won’t find another brand that includes as much stuff. However, there are lots of other options. If you want to compare the competition for yourself, go check out my post on The Ultimate List of Sewing Subscription Boxes.
