Covid-19 has been a nightmare for businesses around the world. Many have been forced to close down or make major changes to their business models. That’s what happened to Ami Porter, owner of Simply Needlecraft in Swadlincote. She had been teaching in-person sewing classes to kids since 2014. With pandemic conditions worsening, it became too challenging to hold sewing classes in person. That’s why Ami took her sewing classes online with a sewing subscription box model.

Now, I know what you’re thinking…

Learning to sew online is not as easy as learning to sew from an in-person class. I tend to agree, read my post on The Pros and Cons of Learning to Sew Online. However, online sewing classes are better than nothing. I think it’s awesome that Ami did not give up on the kids in her sewing class. If your kids want to learn to sew online, it is possible!

Stitch School Monthly Lesson Packs

Ami created The Stitch School Monthly Lesson Pack. It’s a sewing subscription box for kids with guided, video lessons. There is an option for both hand stitching and machine stitching. If your kids are facing lockdown conditions, they might benefit from an online sewing class, too.

The Stitch School is suitable for children of all ages, but Ami tailors lessons to each student’s abilities. Children receive a certificate when they have completed a course and can move on to the next level.

I’m surprised at the cost of The Stitch School. It’s very affordable. Ami sends your children two projects in each box. You get to work at your own pace, but Ami is available for video chat if needed.

I’m Trying Stitch School This Month

Ami is sending me the first Stitch School Lesson Pack this month. I am going to try it out with my son. He is turning seven in February and I think he might be ready to learn to sew. I’ll let you know how it goes! Sign up for my email list so you can get updates.

Stitch School sounds promising. If you want to try it out with me, sign up at SimplySewingBoxes.com. You can also get one of Ami’s Deluxe Fabric Boxes or Fat Quarter Stash Boxes.

Sewing is an excellent skill to learn during a pandemic because it keeps you busy when you have to stay at home. A sewing subscription box can help ensure you always have something to work on. Have you been sewing more since the pandemic started? I know I have.
