Are you looking for a good wrap dress pattern? I just made the Marsha Wrap Dress from Rad Patterns. It was a quick sew. If you’re a beginner, I found it easy to follow.
The Marsha Wrap Dress pattern was included in my monthly sewing subscription box from ThreadCrate. I love that I get to sew something new for myself every month. I already had a couple of wrap dress patterns in my stash, so I probably wouldn’t have tried the Marsha Wrap Dress without ThreadCrate.
After sewing up the Marsha Wrap Dress, I decided it was a little short for my liking. I gave it to my sister because we are the same size, and she likes shorter dresses. Lucky her! Here are a few pictures of my sister wearing the Marsha Wrap Dress:
Yes, I made a matching facemask to go with it. Those seem to be a staple nowadays.

Here are the notions you’ll need to buy to sew the Marsha Wrap Dress:
- 3-4 yards of fabric, depending on the length you want to make. I suggest you choose fabric with a 4-way stretch and nice drape.
- Coordinating thread
- Clear elastic if your fabric is very stretchy
It takes a while to tape all your pattern pieces together and cut them out. That’s the biggest drawback to using PDF patterns. It’s not hard; just time consuming.
I finished all the seams on this wrap dress with my serger. I also used a double needle in my sewing machine for the top stitching. If you’re new to sewing with knit, I suggest you read my post: How to Sew Stretchy Fabric Without Losing Your Mind.
The Marsha Wrap dress is designed for knit fabric with at least 40% stretch. ThreadCrate sent me a nice rose-colored, Modal spandex from Surge Fabric Shop. You need a lot of fabric for this sewing pattern because the bodice is lined and the skirt portion is practically as big as a circle skirt. ThreadCrate only sent me three yards of fabric, which is why I decided to make the calf-length dress. I wish I would have had enough fabric to make the maxi length. I suggest you buy four yards if that’s what you want to make.
I love that the Marsha Wrap Dress has several different sleeve options and dress length options. I made the calf-length dress with short sleeves and lined bodice. I probably should have shortened the bodice because my fabric had a lot of stretch. This pattern also has maternity and nursing options!
I typically wear a women’s large or extra-large shirt. Based on my measurements, I decided to make the extra-large size for the Marsha Wrap Dress. It was a good choice, so Rad Patterns is true to size. You might want to size up if your fabric is not super stretchy. Of course, keep in mind that wrap dresses are forgiving in size anyway because of how they’re made. Also, this dress pattern is very low in front. You may want to add an inch to both sides of the neckline for more coverage. I planned to wear a camisole underneath, so I didn’t bother to make the adjustment.
I think my Marsha Wrap Dress turned out amazing. I’ll definitely be making more in the future. It’s a pattern I would never have known about if it weren’t for ThreadCrate. They include new patterns every month that help me build my wardrobe and try new styles.
