Look how cute these denim overalls turned out! I used the Okey Dokey Overalls pattern from Peek-a-Boo Pattern Shop. I love the topstitching details and the fun buttons and buckles.
I recently made some skinny jeans for my older son and wanted to make something out of the same denim fabric for my younger son to match. I love the way these overalls fit my chunky baby. Here are some pics of my son wearing his new overalls:

This is the second sewing pattern I’ve purchase from Peek-a-Boo Pattern Shop. It was fairly easy to follow, but I did have a little trouble getting the bib to match up with the pants portion of the overalls. It was probably due more to cutting error than the pattern, though.
One critique I have about this pattern is the weird shape of the front pieces. Since this pattern has a faux fly, I don’t see the point in having the part that folds under to create a real fly. I think it just adds bulk and confusion.
To sew these overalls, you’ll need to know, or want to learn, how to make buttonholes and attach jeans buttons. The pattern comes with a full tutorial on how to do everything else. This pattern is time consuming, but overall good.
Materials Needed to Sew Okey Dokey Overalls
These overalls are designed for stretch denim and other bottomweight fabrics, such as corduroy and twill. I suggest you choose fabric with a bit of stretch for comfort. I used Blue Stretch Indigo Denim from Fabricgenie.
Here are the notions you’ll need to buy:
You don’t have to use jeans thread for your topstitching, but I like the way it made my son’s overalls turn out. If you want to sew these overalls out of denim, I suggest you read my post on sewing with denim first. It will help you be more successful. Also, pay attention to the size of overall buckles it tells you to use for the size overalls you want to make. I used 1-inch buckles and made the 3T size.
