Probably more often than you do… It’s crazy how much lint and dust can accumulate in your sewing machine. Most people clean their sewing machine on a project-to-project basis, but you should perform a deep clean on your sewing machine every couple of months.

Take the Poll!

The more you sew, the more often you’ll need to clean your sewing machine. This is especially true if you’re sewing on fabrics that produce a lot of lint, such as faux fur, fleece, and anything else with pile. All that lint needs to be cleaned out of your machine after every project with a small brush or vacuum.

I personally don’t clean my sewing machine after every project. I simply clean it when I notice lint or other problems. However, you should do a deep cleaning on your sewing machine and apply oil every couple of months if you do a lot of sewing. This involves removing the throat plate and bobbin housing to get to all of the lint.
