- It’s not because your products are priced too high.
- It’s not because you don’t offer free shipping.
- It’s not because you don’t pay extra to promote your products to the first page of listings.
The reason nobody is buying your Etsy products is that they look the same as everyone else’s.
People don’t come to Etsy looking for “handmade” products. They come to Etsy looking for “unique” products.
If you’re selling a bag on Etsy that people can buy anywhere, you are not going to get any sales.
This is the cold, hard truth.
The only way to start selling your Etsy products is to make them unique.
People won’t care that your bags have reinforced seams and are high quality. That is something they expect from all products.
Look at all the top sellers on Etsy. They all offer unique and beautiful products that you can’t buy anywhere else.
For example, you can buy a child’s tie anywhere, but it’s much harder to buy a child’s tie with a matching adult tie.
Think about what you can do to create a product that people can only buy from you!
So now you’re thinking… How do I make my products more unique?
You have many options, but here are two suggestions:
- Add customization options, such as embroidering names and dates on items.
- Embellish your products into gorgeous works of art.
People are much more likely to buy a bag that has an embroidered image on the outside than a bag that you claim is higher quality than everything else out there. Etsy is a marketplace for unique items that are beautiful.

If you sew things to sell on Etsy, your business could benefit immensely from an embroidery machine. Customers love customization.
If you already understand the basics of a sewing machine, an embroidery machine will be easy for you to learn. You simply choose a design, hoop your fabric, and let the embroidery machine do the embellishing for you. You can literally press the button and walk away.
People think that embroidering takes a lot of extra time when this really isn’t true. Once you have everything set up in your machine, you can press the start button and do something else while the machine is working. You’ll want to stay nearby to switch the thread color when the machine stops and tells you to, but for the most part, embroidery machines do all the work.
Now, I know what you’re thinking now…
Embroidery machines are too expensive and you think you could never afford to buy one.
This simply is not true. Sure, there are embroidery machines on the market that cost upwards of $7,000, but there are plenty of embroidery machines for home use that only cost a fraction of that price.
